XML Schema Quality of Design (QOD) Tool

Welcome to the NIST QOD Site

On this site you will be able to use NIST's Quality of Design Tool, also known as QOD .   You may use QOD in two ways.  As an anonymous user you can use QOD to check your XML schemas for design quality.  See Testing as a Guest User.  You may also request an account with us to use more of the features.  With an account you may

  • submit your own rules and tests to use in checking schemas ,
  • share those tests with other people (including anonymous users),
  • test XML schemas , and
  • track the results from testing your schemas .

The menu bar on the left of this screen shows all the functions available to you.  The menu will expand when you have logged into an account to include the expanded functionality.

To help you get started we have created the "Example Page" (see the link on the left). The page contains sample rules and XML schemas that comply with those rules and those which fail. The page walks you through how to execute the rules with the examples provided and lets you look at all the test materials.

Project Participation

We are currently looking for people who would be interested in working with us to further develop this tool by providing user feedback and who are interested in collaborating to encode design rules.  If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please contact us at  xmlTestbed@cme.nist.gov.

This service has been developed by NIST's Manufacturing Systems Integration Division as part of B2B Interoperability Testbed and the XML Testbed projects.
